My Daughter is a Song I Sang

I hear her in the pale first light

The dark retreats the coldness bites

Her message is a stark delight:

She’ll need me till she doubts my might

She’s crawling toward the open door

I watch her till my worry storms

Then rain upon her glowing warmth

And save her from the world next door

My daughter is a song I sang

She runs the pasture fence and back

She streaks through time, rejects the past

I’m left to wonder where she’s at

Then hear her voice, grown up at last

My daughter is a song I sang

I'm a literary type who sings metaphor and story -- and -- secretly worries he'll never finish his novel.
